MIXED EMOTIONS:
Skeptically superior
A skeptically superior expression carries the air of someone who has already judged and found wanting, yet is still willing to entertain what’s before them—if only to confirm their suspicions. The scepticism sharpens the gaze, narrowing the eyes or tilting the head, while the superiority adds a faint smirk or lift of the brow. Together, they create a look that is both questioning and dismissive, as though the person is saying, “Convince me, though I doubt you can.”
There is a layered tension in this expression: the sceptical element keeps it probing, analytical, unwilling to accept things at face value, while the superiority lends it a touch of condescension, a sense of already being above the fray. It’s not outright disdain, but rather a cool detachment, the confidence of someone who believes they see through the pretence or weakness of what’s presented.
Such an expression can unsettle or challenge, because it places the burden of proof firmly on the other side. It signals both intelligence and distance, a readiness to interrogate but not necessarily to empathise. Skeptically superior is less about openness to discovery and more about reinforcing one’s own vantage point, a look that asserts authority even as it questions.
This work is produced as a limited edition - hand‑pulled in the studio, signed/stamped and numbered to ensure their authenticity and collectability. Each edition is created using traditional silkscreen techniques on archival paper, with every layer printed by hand.
Collectors can choose to acquire these works in two forms:
• On Paper — the edition in its purest state, unframed, offering flexibility for personal presentation.
• Artist‑Framed — mounted and framed by the artist, using bespoke methods to present the work as a complete, ready‑to‑hang artwork.
This dual approach allows the work to be appreciated either as a print to be lived with and framed to taste, or as a finished object crafted entirely within the artist’s practice.
