MIXED EMOTIONS:

QUIZICCALLY SAD

A quizzically sad expression carries the weight of sorrow while simultaneously questioning its own presence. It is the look of someone caught between feeling and understanding, as though the sadness has arrived uninvited and the mind is still puzzling over its cause. This duality softens the heaviness of grief, transforming it into something more complex—an emotion that resists clarity, that asks as much as it reveals.

There is a vulnerability in this mixture, a childlike quality that emerges when pain is felt but not yet fully named. The quizzical tilt suggests innocence, the bewilderment of encountering hurt without a clear explanation. Yet it also hints at self-awareness: the quiet interrogation of one’s own heart, the attempt to decode the strange logic of melancholy.

In this way, quizzical sadness becomes more than a private feeling—it is an invitation. It asks others to look closer, to share in the mystery of an emotion that is both tender and unresolved. It is sadness that does not close in on itself, but instead opens outward, carrying with it the faintest trace of humour, irony, or wonder at the strangeness of being human.

This work is produced as a limited edition - hand‑pulled in the studio, signed/stamped and numbered to ensure their authenticity and collectability. Each edition is created using traditional silkscreen techniques on archival paper, with every layer printed by hand.

Collectors can choose to acquire these works in two forms:

On Paper — the edition in its purest state, unframed, offering flexibility for personal presentation.

Artist‑Framed — mounted and framed by the artist, using bespoke methods to present the work as a complete, ready‑to‑hang artwork.

This dual approach allows the work to be appreciated either as a print to be lived with and framed to taste, or as a finished object crafted entirely within the artist’s practice.
