R T Penwill Editions
How I Work
Every project is a collaboration. My role is to translate your vision into a beautifully crafted edition, using my signature approach: rich texture, hand‑mixed colour, and meticulous attention to detail. Here’s what you can expect when we work together:
1. Initial Enquiry
Send me a short outline of your project — edition size, deadlines, artwork format, and any initial ideas. I’ll confirm if it’s a good fit for my studio’s scale and style.
2. Studio Meeting
We’ll meet in my garden studio to discuss your ideas in depth. Bring any sketches, images, or references you have. We’ll explore paper and ink options, talk through possibilities and limitations, and decide on the final direction.
(If you can’t visit in person, we can arrange a video call — though in‑studio is always best for seeing materials and colours.)
3. Artwork Preparation
You can supply your own print‑ready positives, or I can prepare them for you. Any additional artworking is quoted separately.
4. Test Printing
I’ll produce one or more test prints showing all layers, with any agreed variations. You’ll receive photos (or see them in person) to approve before we move to the editioning stage.
5. Approval & Sign‑off
Once you’re happy, we’ll agree in writing that the test print is approved. This ensures we’re both clear on the final look before the edition is produced.
6. Edition Printing
I’ll hand‑print your edition on Somerset Velvet White as standard, using archival inks and my own hand‑mixed colours. Experimental papers or finishes are available by arrangement.
7. Delivery
Your prints will be packaged in acid‑free tissue and a sturdy flat box or tube, with a signed certificate of authenticity. You can collect in person or have them shipped securely.

At R T Penwill Editions, every edition is hand‑pulled, one layer at a time, with precision and care.
I work in small runs only, using Somerset Velvet White with a natural torn edge and archival water‑based inks mixed to exact specifications.
The focus is simple: exceptional texture, accurate colour, and a finish that does justice to the work.
