MIXED EMOTIONS:

Happily Surprised

A happily surprised expression captures the instant when joy collides with the unexpected. It is the widening of the eyes, the sudden lift of the mouth, the spark of delight that arrives unannounced. Unlike simple happiness, it carries the thrill of discovery, the sense that something unforeseen has broken through the ordinary and gifted a moment of wonder.

There is a freshness to this kind of joy, as though the world has briefly revealed a hidden generosity. The surprise element makes the happiness feel more alive, more electric, because it has not been anticipated or earned through effort—it has simply appeared. In that way, it embodies the fleeting magic of being caught off guard by something good, a reminder that delight often comes when least expected.

At its heart, happily surprised is an expression of openness. It shows a readiness to be moved, to be astonished, to let the world exceed one’s expectations. It is not just happiness, but happiness sharpened by astonishment, carrying with it the warmth of gratitude and the lightness of play. It is the face of someone who has just been reminded that joy can arrive without warning, and that such moments are all the more precious for their spontaneity.

This work is produced as a limited edition - hand‑pulled in the studio, signed/stamped and numbered to ensure their authenticity and collectability. Each edition is created using traditional silkscreen techniques on archival paper, with every layer printed by hand.

Collectors can choose to acquire these works in two forms:

On Paper — the edition in its purest state, unframed, offering flexibility for personal presentation.

Artist‑Framed — mounted and framed by the artist, using bespoke methods to present the work as a complete, ready‑to‑hang artwork.

This dual approach allows the work to be appreciated either as a print to be lived with and framed to taste, or as a finished object crafted entirely within the artist’s practice.
