Arrogance

from £140.00

In this piece titled 'Arrogance,' I aim to convey a sense of superiority and dismissiveness through an expressive female character. The solid yellow-green background and striking colours of her attire contribute to a strong visual presence. Her confident pose, with raised eyebrows and piercing gaze, suggests a sense of self-importance.

While her expression seems to communicate arrogance, there's room for interpretation. The character's look might also mask feelings of insecurity or doubt.

This ambiguity encourages viewers to reflect on their own perceptions of arrogance and consider the possibility that they might be misreading her emotions. The textured layers of ink enrich the artwork, adding a complexity that invites the viewer to explore the character's multifaceted expression.

Summary

·      Medium: silkscreen print

·      Layers: 10

·      Paper: Somerset Velvet (300gsm)

·      Frame size - H: 42.5cm W: 41.5cm

·      Print edition size: 25

In my series ‘Talking Heads’, comprising nine silkscreen prints, I capture a range of human emotions through expressive female and male characters. Each artwork, carefully crafted with ten or more layers of ink on textured cotton paper, explores the complexities of facial expressions and what they communicate. My aim is to invite viewers to question their perceptions of emotions.

As a neurodivergent artist, I'm inspired by the 'double empathy problem' theory, which highlights the unique communication challenges between neurodivergent and neurotypical individuals. My approach allows each character's expression to emerge naturally, creating an authentic portrayal of feelings.

The process behind these artworks is both challenging and rewarding. I focus on achieving consistency across prints through careful editioning. I digitally select and meticulously mix colors to match, layering inks to achieve the desired final tones. This attention to detail adds depth and dimension, particularly on the textured paper.

Each print is not just a visual experience but a thought-provoking piece that encourages viewers to reflect on the nuances of human emotions. Whether it's the melancholy captured in one piece or another emotion in the next, this series offers a glimpse into my perspective and invites you to engage with the art on a deeper level.
